I just recently completed the special edition of The Secret of Monkey Island and took a couple of screenshots to show the difference. I had great fun completing it again after about 20 years ( I was 11 years old the first time) with my 8 year old son who also enjoyed it. Fingers crossed they will bring out a Special Edition of Monkey Island 2 as I think that Le Chucks revenge was the best of the series.
